A celebration of life venue in Hutchinson should take work off your plate, not add to it. SandHills Event Center is one large room at 4601 N Plum St with tables, chairs, a kitchen and a stage already in place, and you can book a date online in a few minutes. Here is what families usually need for a memorial reception in Hutchinson, KS, what a weekday costs, and a simple way to run the afternoon.
What a celebration of life venue in Hutchinson should give you
Most families are planning inside a week. There is no time to borrow folding tables or track down a microphone. The venue should already have the basics.
- Room for the crowd. A gathering can be 50 people or 300. One room should handle either.
- Tables and chairs already there. Not rented from somewhere else.
- A kitchen. Somewhere to keep the casseroles friends drop off, warm them, and keep coffee going.
- A screen and a microphone. For the slideshow and for anyone who wants to say a few words.
- A place for the photo table and guest book. Near the entrance, where people see it as they arrive.
- Easy parking and a level entrance. Many guests will be older. No stairs and no long walk.
- A quiet room for the family. A door you can close for ten minutes before you greet people.
How quickly you can book a date
Our calendar is online with live availability, so you can see open days tonight and hold one without waiting for office hours. Go to request a date, pick the day, and pay the $150 refundable security deposit. That holds the date. To talk it through with a person, call or text (620) 314-4141, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Events can be any day of the week.
Rentals are by the day, not the hour. There is no clock running while you set out photos or linger afterward. Plan your setup and clean-up inside that day.
What a weekday memorial reception costs
Most services fall on weekdays, so most families pay our weekday rate. Kansas sales tax of 8.25% is added.
| Item | Cost |
|---|---|
| Weekday rental (Sunday through Friday), full day | $595 |
| Saturday rental, full day | $999 |
| Audio/visual package (sound system, wireless mics, drop-down screen) | $149 |
| Table and chair set-up and tear-down by our team | $249 |
| Set up tables and chairs yourselves | Free |
| Refundable security deposit | $150 |
The weekday rate and the A/V package together come to $744 before tax. The rental balance is due 14 days before the event, and we email a pay link. If your date is closer than that, call or text and we will walk you through it. The full rate sheet is on our event space rental page.
Deposit and cancellation, kept simple
The $150 deposit is returned after the event once the room is left as you found it. Cancel 14 or more days before the date and the deposit is returned. Inside 14 days, the rental fee is forfeited. We know a memorial date can move. If something changes, call us first.
Food and drink: anyone can bring it
If you are comparing a funeral luncheon venue in Hutchinson, this is the part to ask about. We have no vendor restrictions. A restaurant can drop off trays, a caterer can serve, or the family can bring what friends have cooked. The prep kitchen has a fridge and freezer, a stove, a microwave and two commercial coffee pots. Sunflower Supper Club in Hutchinson is a caterer we recommend, never required. You may also bring your own drinks, following Kansas law and our rental terms. Our post on bringing your own caterer covers how drop-off food works in the room.
A simple flow for the gathering
You do not need a printed program. Most celebrations of life follow a shape like this.
- Arrive. Guests sign the guest book, look at the photos and find a seat. Coffee is already out. Thirty minutes is plenty.
- Remarks. A welcome from the stage, the slideshow, and two or three people who speak. Keep it to 20 or 30 minutes.
- Meal. Open the buffet line. Round tables of eight let people sit with family.
- Open time. People talk and leave when they are ready. This is the part that matters most, and it is why a full-day rental helps.
What to bring
- Framed photos, a guest book and pens for the welcome table
- A laptop with the slideshow on it, plus its charger
- Tablecloths, if you want them
- Serving spoons, plates, cups, napkins and to-go containers for leftovers
- Enclosed candles only, if you want candles. No open flames.
- A few helpers for clean-up. The Event Day Guide has the short clean-up list, the thermostat and the Wi-Fi.
